Baseline plans and interim are similar in that they you compare current dates against an early on date. But they have important differences that yous desire to get straight.

Set an interim program

  1. Click the Projection tab. In the Schedule group, signal to Set Baseline, and then click Set Baseline.

  2. Click Set up acting plan.

  3. In the Copy box, click the first and finish or baseline values that you want to save. (The current start and end, and baseline values are not numbered.)

  4. In the Into box, click the name of the interim plan into which yous want to copy the values.
    Acting plans are stored in the start and finish fields.

    Note:If you select one baseline in the Re-create box and another baseline in the Into box, you will salve a baseline, rather than an acting program. All baseline information will exist copied. Update a baseline or an acting plan

If changes to your initial programme occur after you fix a baseline or an acting program, you tin can update the saved data.

      Note:If you selected both subtasks and their summary tasks, select both check boxes.

  7. Click OK.

  8. When prompted to overwrite the existing saved data, click Aye.

Analyze baseline and acting data

After yous prepare baseline or acting data, you tin compare it with the scheduled and bodily data to see how your project is tracking confronting your initial goals.

View project baseline information

After you set a baseline for the unabridged project, yous can view the baseline data side-by-side with the electric current planned data, the actual information, and the variance.

Compare baseline and scheduled information

If the variance in your project doesn't show the values that yous await, there are several possible explanations:

  • Yous might not have set a baseline. The variance is the baseline value compared with the actual value for a field. If there is no baseline, Project calculates this divergence by using a 0 value for the baseline fields, resulting in variances that are as big as the scheduled field itself. For example, suppose that you have a scheduled cost of $lx for a task. If no baseline is ready, the baseline cost is $0. The Price Variance field therefore shows $60.

  • You might have fix multiple baselines, merely Project uses only the initial baseline values (that is, the values for the Baseline field, and not the values for Baseline1 through Baseline10) when computing variance. In this case, you might come across information in variance fields, only the information might seem to be outdated and possibly too big.

  • You lot might accept added new tasks to a project merely non added them to the baseline plan. In this case, you lot might see variances that are equal to the scheduled values.

Compare multiple baselines

Annotation:By default, the Multiple Baselines Gantt view shows the first 3 baselines (Baseline, Baseline1, and Baseline2). To show other baselines, modify the bar styles on the Gantt chart.
